What are his credentials for guiding and speaking about macroeconomic issues? Just because he had the resources to finance his losing campaign, at a personal cost of maybe $40 million, does not mean he has the qualifications of someone like Henry Paulson (not that he did much more than follow Ben Bernanke's lead). A Treasury Secretary these days needs to understand world economics and bubbles, and likely needs to be patient because the solutions are likely to take time. Politicians, typically, are not patient. They hear 2- and 4-year clocks ticking. I'd prefer an academic.
