That's because he had massive lawyer debts that offset his assets, but those were erased post-haste through public speaking and book deals right after his Presidency ended. Remember, Monica was a very expensive whore, but the lawyers ran away with the loot.

There is no question now that the Clintons are very rich. However, at the time of his presidency, I don't think they were much more than upper middle class. That's all I was pointing out.
