Gee, Steve, your post takes Maitreya much more seriously than I do. I am a pretty rational person, not religious at all, and am not one of his followers. I do believe, as I have said before, that most people need to believe in magic and religion. If they are going to do that, then Maitreya, with his nonviolent, ecumenical approach, and his concern for the environment and the poor, certainly has advantages to me over prophets and preachers who argue that only their belief system has merit. At least he is not divisive!!! Right now there are people all over the world mutilating and killing each other over religious arguments. Could it get much worse?
I am not a New Ager, either, in its most commonly understood meaning. I do appreciate the way they see the world, however, in an environmental sense. I am certainly not an Old Ager, because I do not support violence and ecological ruin. But I don't wear my crystals to work or anything!!
