What proof have you that Intel's 65nm process on 300mm wafers is cheaper to produce than that of AMD??? Proof that you would accept? None probably. Proof that I or anyone familiar with semiconductor manufacturing would accept? Lots. Here's just one data point: planet3dnow.de Notice about 75% of the way down the page, "defect density below 0.5cm2 range". Considering AMD hasn't told the truth about anything is about as long as anyone can remember, if they admit to "below 0.5cm2" you can interpret that to mean worse than 0.5d/cm2. I do. That's really bad yield. Intel claims world class yield and considering they have been over delivering and pulling in most schedules for the last year, there's no reason to doubt their claim. There are lots of other reasons as well. Vapor launches, 65nm unable to match 90nm performance, wide leakage range across 65nm product line, lack of overclockability, etc not to mention that SOI is inherently lower yielding than a standard process. Nevertheless I respect the fact that you have placed your money on the line. I just think you made the wrong bet. Good luck.
