That's why it was simpler to wall off Lebanon for 15 years and let them shoot each other up until they were tired of it.

I have no idea what incentive would be sufficient to get the Lebanese Shiites to buy into a national government instead of Hezbollah - way beyond my competence and experience. In some places, putting a firm lid on the whole area would be the first step to a successful solution.

The Brits fought the IRA to a draw where they couldn't forcibly disarm the IRA, but the IRA could not accomplish their aims either. A political solution was the only answer.

Seems like a stalemate of force is called for here too. Better that internationals do it than the IDF.
