I can't remember specifically which, but one of the Federalist papers addresses the problem of a past-president running around making trouble. It was certainly envisioned by Hamilton, et.al., that having, on the loose, a past president who is bitter about the way the country is being run, could be a definite problem.

I don't recall that they had any real suggest as to what to do about it. You can't very well lock him up.

It is exacerbated by the fact that his own party doesn't have the dignity to intercede. There must be some Democrat somewhere that could talk to him.
