Well, Michael, first of all I don't understand how the poor, underprivileged Cole family can afford $1800 a month for tuition for their five children. Either they are not really paying half of the $3600, or they are not really underprivileged. Which is it? And why should my tax dollars support Mrs. Cole's desire to give her children a religious education? I believe she should pay for that by herself. It's certainly not my civic responsibility to participate. Is she willing to pay for all the sage and drum lessons necessary to teach my child the proper pagan rituals, and the rules of moon worship? I don't think so!!!

Also, it seems like you might have bought into a lot of myths about the voucher system. I would be interested in seeing how it works in practice, and am glad there are some experiments to see what happens. But those Catholic schools are never going to accept and KEEP bad students, even if their parents do have vouchers. So the public schools in poor areas will end up even worse, with their better students siphoned off. Not very encouraging!
