a population that now exceeds 20 million OH GAWD!
even worse traffic jams Yeah. That's easy to believe.
Brand consciousness is so strong that people buy fake hood ornaments of luxury cars like Mercedes to put on domestically manufactured models. Now THERE'S an idea. Why isn't someone doing that here? Or is someone already? Want to buy stock in my new company? :-)
Chinese car owners even show a very American resistance to carpooling. This is BAD NEWS for our own environmentalists/statists. Man, if you can't sell this in a country that has had decades of consciousness-raising by the Communist masters, you can't sell it anywhere.
Of course, the statists can always tax you to build empty carpool lanes!
Wu Jiang, the city's deputy director of urban planning, said that while the city has only three subway lines now, five more are under construction and nine more are planned, a network intended to give the city 20 percent more miles of track than New York City. Or maybe their statists aren't so dead after all.
But developers in Shanghai, as in virtually every big Chinese city, are erecting rows of apartment buildings on the outskirts, creating a new commuter class of people who prefer cars to mass transit. Yeah, now who wudda thunk THAT? DUH!
Mixing cars and bicycles in traffic is also deadly: bicycles account for three-quarters of all traffic accidents, Mr. Wu said. Will somebody tell Critical Mass about this? Their life expectancy is lower than they think. suli.ws
"I wouldn't spend the money," Mr. Yang said. "I'd save it if I weren't expecting better times." We shall see, Mr. Yang. More oil for gasoline. Where does it come from? And you could have gotten onto the industrial wave just as it breaks. |
