While DTV converters are doing quite well when decoder IC is cool; there can be more improvement for the 2009 $1 billion dollar market.

The white space between broadcasting station maybe used for interactive communications using cellphones. Google is eyeing that possibility as well as using the 700 mhz space.

DTV also has QoE problems, when signal drops out. The internal amplification in the DTV decoder can not be overloaded by VHF antenna signals. Single UHF antenna seemed better. Signal drop out sometimes can be benefited by periodically repeated packets. QoE then will re-assemble the complete packet bit by bit? This will reduce the number of channel available on each broadcasting station carrier frequency. But scattered signals will be usable, if broadcasting camera uses five layers of superimposed segmented data.

DTV will be a big business, because of all the installed analog TV still usable over time(20 year life expectancy) with DTV converter.
