Reincarnation is not Christian

I was just wondering where the belief that the "church" once taught reincarnation comes from. I would honestly be interested in seeing evidence or information about this.

Reincarnation has never been part of the basic Christian belief. Reincarnation (roughly) means that when you die you come back to earth again in another form (another person, an animal, etc.) The Bible makes no reference to reincarnation. In fact, reincarnation is a fundamental part of Hinduism. For references on Hinduism, see:

I imagine that some of the confusion comes from the fact that resurrection (not reincarnation) is a key part of Christian faith. Christianity believes that when Jesus Christ returns, those that have believed in Him will be raised from the dead to everlasting life. There is a pretty complex chapter in the Bible about resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15.
