I used to say that a good Steinway is useless unless you are ready to play on all tangents including the black ones should the music so require.

In my experience, playing a fine piano is much easier than playing a POS. Eubie Blake used to say a Steinway "plays itself". I don't think it is quite that pronounced, but there is something to it.

Even on a Steinway, one does need to be able to use the black keys, I agree LOL...
