Yes, debka speculates a lot, and the further they get from Israel/Pal, the less I trust them. BUT Syria is only one step away from Israel/Pal, and I mostly trust their Syrian reporting. You learn to id the pure speculation and filter it out. BTW, AP is reporting that US officials are also telling Syria, "So you want to restart peace talks? Let's see some action on shutting down Hizbullah et. al." So that means that Sharon's stance is working hand-in-hand with the US'.
