What's up this weekend: Michigan, Florida and Puerto Rico
US TODAY

The big event tomorrow is the Democratic National Committee panel that's meeting to decide whether to seat all, some or no convention delegates from Florida and Michigan. The 9:30 a.m. ET meeting of the rules and bylaws committee will be shown live on C-SPAN and streamed live at CNN.

The two states were stripped of their delegates last year when they insisted on moving their primaries to January in violation of party rules. Hillary Clinton won both contests and wants them counted, although nobody campaigned in the states and Barack Obama's name was not on the Michigan ballot.

Clinton's case will be argued by former Michigan governor Jim Blanchard and Florida state Sen. Arthenia Joyner. Florida Rep. Robert Wexler and former Michigan Rep. David Bonior will make Obama's case. The Obama camp says it is open to a compromise that allows Clinton some net gain.

Obama is predicting he'll have enough delegates to clinch the nomination next week no matter what the DNC panel decides. The suspense appears to lie mainly in whether Clinton stays in through the summer and challenges the decision at the convention in August.

The other big event this weekend is the Puerto Rico primary on Sunday. Polls close at 3 p.m. ET. Opinion polls suggest Clinton will win, but her proportional share of the 55 delegates at stake won't be enough to derail Obama. Side note: Puerto Ricans can't vote in the general election this fall.

The last contests this season are Tuesday in South Dakota and Montana. Obama spends the weekend in South Dakota. He holds town halls tomorrow in Rapid City and Aberdeen. On Sunday he attends a pancake breakfast with veterans and military families and has a rally in Mitchell. On Monday he heads to the autumn battleground state of Michigan for a town hall in Troy.

Clinton is spending tomorrow in San Juan.

Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain is taking the weekend off. He holds a town meeting Monday in Nashville.
