I don't know what problems pharmacists have these days with controlled substances, I am kinda out of the crime loop.
I was aware of the crime loop when I was a loopy kid, and hung out with kids who hung out with kids who hung out with kids who were bad, and did stuff like break into pharmacies to steal drugs, and use forged prescriptions. My sister (the one who's estranged, not the nurse) dated a guy who broke into a pharmacy and got caught because he got loaded and never left. Stuff like that.
Later in life I represented people, always women, who forged prescriptions, always for dilaudid. They always had got hooked after surgery or an accident. Some of them were nurses.
It's a messy business, drug addiction is, not nice and clean like dispensing antibiotics and birth control pills and insulin. You can't blame them for not wanting to be held up by bikers and such.
When I used to take phentermine (diet pills) sometimes they were hard to find. I went all over without thinking about whether it would look strange. But I am a middle class middle aged woman driving a middle class car, I am invisible. I asked the doctor's staff to suggest a pharmacy that carried it, and they knew one, they sent people there a lot, and it never ran out.
