Intel pushes advanced production, 500-MHz chips

Excerpt: (CEO Barrett speaks)

Intel is in fact already making such a shift, he said. Processors made under the next-generation 0.18-micron manufacturing technology will appear by mid-year next year, faster than was stated on earlier product calendars.

"We're looking to ramp up 0.18-micron technology in mid-1999 to minimize the amount of 0.25-micron [production technology] we have put in place," he said.

Barrett's comments make me feel much more bullish on INTC. AMD and NSM are just pushing to get 0.25 in full production. If INTC jumps ahead with 0.18 they will be far ahead of anyone, IMO.
It is a risk of course, but if they can pull it off. <g>

This would also impact on the SEMI Equipment companies that supply them with 0.18 equipment. They will have the next generation equipment in 'production' before their competitors. No one what's to be first unless you have too.

Has anyone heard plans for any company to start 'full' production of a 0.18 line in 1999?? I have not. Not even big blue, but of course they have 'copper'. <g> Those 2001 INTC Leaps should do mighty fine....

My heart is with tech. stocks. My short term cash is on PFE.
Now if they can only keep it up! <gg> Remember to take a pill 30-60 minutes before... trading...Yea, that's it trading...
