You have to differentiate between the concept and the implementation. Free trade to me means freedom to make deals with foreigners without government interference. That is a conservative ideal. What have been implemented in the name of free trade are these bureaucratic, unaccountable, multilateral monstrosities that are threats to national sovereignty and are rightfully to be feared. This is a liberal ideal.
