"Let's hope things are not too bad in those areas." Virtually everybody evacuated, so we won't have that particular brand of tragedy. As low and flat as everything is, the storm surge is going to take things out. Luckily, it was east of Sabine Pass, and there just isn't much out there. But Orange and Lake Charles got a lot of wind, there will be a lot of trees down. Pine pretty much dominates, and pine is brittle. Loblolly pine can get big, easily exceeding 100 feet and 3 to 4 foot in diameter. When one of those drops on something, it feels it. Luckily, it looks as if the tornado train wasn't as bad as it looked like it would be before landfall. But the likelihood of widespread flooding remains. Having a hurricane stall and rain out over that area pretty much guarantees that to happen.
