It sounds like not only did Del alienate investors but workers also. He may have been better suited for a guidance position to a more people oriented CEO. It is amplified by the fact that Kathy left in the same manner and time. She knew how extreme the dissension was so could not stay on to face the music without Del at the top.

I agree that if Gilpin is right "Gilpin said Yocam had the company headed in the right direction." then an IBM or CA or IONA or MSFT or SUNW can put together what Del could not, the tools and enterprise to have one kick ass product. May be even the current staff can steer the products in the right direction but they would still have all those competitive's out there. A merger with a powerhouse would work and may be the wisest solution?
