Earnings released this afternoon: ATLANTA, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta (NYSE: SFA) reported net earnings for the third quarter ended March 27, 1998 of $17.1 million, or $0.22 per share, an increase of 4% over the prior year's third quarter net earnings of $16.5 million, or $0.21 per share. Net earnings increased 16% sequentially over the second quarter's $14.8 million, or $0.19 per share. Sales of $288.7 million decreased 4% compared to the prior year's third quarter sales of $301.7 million. The reduction reflects continued weakness in Asian and some European markets, offset partially by a 15% increase in the U.S.
