MOSCOW, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Russia's total number of mobile phone users increased 7.7 percent
in September and 21 percent in the third quarter of 2002

Media consultancy said late on Wednesday.

NOTE - AC&M said Russia had a total of 14.46 million mobile users at the end of September,
or just under 10 percent of the population. That is up from 13.43 million at the end of August
and 11.73 million at the end of June.
That put 81 percent of current subscribers with Russia's three national operators, Mobile
TeleSystems, Vimpelcom and Megafon.
Vimpelcom said on Wednesday in a press release it had signed up its four millionth user.
Uralsvyazinform, a unit of national fixed line telecoms holding Svyazinvest, has recently
merged with several other operators in the Ural Mountains region. The data is for the
consolidated operator's cellular units.
AC&M is a telecoms consultancy whose researchers' data is widely cited by analysts and
operators.
