Some market projections..........

lightreading.com

The U.S. market for installing new fiber in access networks will more
than double in the next four years, from $925.5 million in the year 2000
to $2538.2 million in 2004, according to a report from Communications
Industry Researchers, Inc. cir-inc.comcalled "Fiber to the X:
The New Market for Fiber to the Desk, Cabinet and Home.".

CIR says the arrival of lower cost metro DWDM (dense wave division
multiplexing) won't make a big dent in the last mile fiber market. In most
locations it will be much less expensive to pull new fiber rather than use
DWDM to squeeze more wavelengths into existing fiber.

By far the biggest market for last mile fiber is in connecting corporate
offices, according to CIR. However, the biggest change will be in the use
of fiber within . That market is set to rocket from $108.2 million this
year to $1109.0 million next, according to CIR.
