Fujian Becomes Major VCD Producer November 11, 1997 (FUZHOU, China) -- Fujian province in eastern China became one of China's top producers of video compact disk (VCD) players, with an estimated production of 1.4 million units in 1997. Statistics released by the Provincial Bureau of Electronics Industry show that the output of VCD players in January-September 1997 was 13.6 times more than that of the same period of 1996. The share of Fujian-made VCD players in the domestic market is expected to hit 17 percent in 1997. (Xinhua News Agency)
