Ground Zero,

Re: I believe posters here are making a sincere effort to discuss the matter and ask legitimate questions.....

I believe many here to be discussing a smoke screen. What I mean by that is that there is a grand strategic purpose being served for certain interests by keeping the Middle East in turmoil. Here's a link to my views on the matter:

I realize that this is too brief to prove anything. But the pattern that exists in the eastern Mediterranean is, to my mind, most easily described as a clash of cultures, with the Israelis acting as a wedge for Western imperialism, a wonderful tool for the West to prevent the rise of a regional superpower.

This is merely a continuation of the Grand Strategy as created by Churchill and the other British Imperialists with the Balfour Agreement and other treaty contrivances.

It is with great sadness that I reflect on the suffering of the Palestinians as it was described by Mahatma Gandhi in 1938. His words could have been spoken yesterday:

"Palestine belongs to the Palestinians in the sense that England belongs to the English or France belongs to the French... What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct... If they [the Jews} must look to Palestine of geography as their national home, it is wrong to enter it under the shadow or the British gun. A religious act cannot be performed with the aid of the bayonet or the bomb. They can settle in Palestine only by the goodwill of the Arabs... As it is, they are co-sharers with the British in despoiling a people who have done no wrong to them. I am not defending the Arab excesses. I wish they had chose the way of non-violence in resisting what they rightly regard as unacceptable encroachment upon the country. But according to the accepted canons of right and wrong, nothing can be said against the Arab resistance in the face of overwhelming odds.

The Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands is morally wrong. Israel is a vile aggressor, with characteristics quite similar to those of Nazi Germany. There can be no moral or ethical justification for their continued aggression. Sharon is merely an imperialist who is hoping to drive the rightful owners of Palestine from their homes. He is a monster.

Best, Ray
