D.H.,

Was DOCSIS 1.2 delayed because of problems with it or the market was not ready for it yet? Also regarding S-CDMA, it is my understanding that it's best application is in the upstream direction modem to node. The use of Cdma in that regard was supposed to be very useful in cases where the local loop was light in fiber.
Comments and corrections appreciated

My understanding is that it was market driven in that customers were holding up decisions on DOCSIS 1.1 because 1.2 was expected to be a significant and imminent change. Another reason given by CableLabs, as I recall, was to give time to consider OFDM in the development of the standard. I think Terayon got muscled here. I don't have any more info than that, and can't even remember sources at this point.

S-CDMA boasts a 14 Mbps upstream and downstream bandwidth that is extremely noise resistant, and can be used from head end to modem and back again. And is adaptable to old cable plant or HFC systems. It's actually a pretty nifty technology.

Take care,

jack
