The link Gord gave; < http://www/rc/gc/ca/E/pub/tp/97187et/97187e.txt.html > leads to Revenue Canada 97-187 Technical News - No.11 "U.S. SPIN-OFFS (DIVESTITURES) - DIVIDENDS IN KIND" This is the other way around, (US Spin off), but can one be sure that Revenue Canada will not find a way to trigger their 'pound of flesh' on a stock swap? What are the precedents?
