thecow, MSN direct connection: I've used one [with win98SE] for a few weeks now because the MSN connection software has a file called trayclnt.exe which hangs up constantly. MSN is aware of it because many have complained. The previous version of MSN was OK. With the direct, self-made, connection the only difference from other ISPs is that under user ID you put 'MSN/yourname'.

I've sent e-mail to MSN support and received no reply on the trayclnt.exe problem.

My MSN contract expires soon and I won't renew. I'm now testing FRYS.com which is free for 3 months, then $10. They have a technician who actually answers the phone. Frys.com is only in the SF Bay area as far as I know.
