Mike, there do appear to be several bizarre elements in this matter. It is strange that the Indonesian police have been very quiet - I can't understand how they could not have cracked the case yet - so whats up? I am mystified. Everyone in the Busang camp seems to have been allowed to go free (and get out of the country I assume). If any foreign nationals were being held by the polce this would have to have made the newspapers because these things have to reported to the countries concerned (? or am I presuming too much?). Does this point to an Indonesians involved only scam??

Re De Guzman. I was not commenting on his morals or personal life. Yes, polygamy is practised by some (not all) muslims (and even then it is very uncommon) but it certainly isn't practiced by any catholics!!! I don't think that polygamy is legal in Indonesia (but I don't know for sure) and I doubt (but don't know for sure) that it is legal in the Philipines. In any case De Guzman was a Filipino catholic and still heavily involved in village life, and I would expect (but again I don't know for sure) that his bigamy would have damned him in the eyes of his family, friends and village (remember, he put a lot of money into his village - or so we were told). IMHO this disgrace and loss of face could be enough to force him to suicide. Aurum
