The house he bought already existed. Originally it was a sales shack for some rec sites that were developed in the early '60s outside Seattle. Eventually it was sold, and over the years individual owners added on rooms. It really was a botched up affair, but but it was his home. The main problem was the foundation. Post and beam. If he'd had a real concrete foundation the house might have survived. It was knocked off its piers by the force of the water and ended up on its side while the guy's house next door remained intact. Except for the 60' fir tree that speared it like an olive.

Caveat emptor!
