The fundamentals really suck for UST. Our sovereign debt, along
with long term liabilities exceeds the World GDP. While I
don't really expect a currency crisis at this time, the problem
will definitely appear some time down the road, once the
bottom part of the iceberg (long term invisible liabilities)
get transferred to the top (visible liabilities). That process
is now taking place, but there is some room for it to go
further before blowing up. Due to the size of the bottom
of the iceberg, it is impossible for the US to grow out of
sovereign debt problem.
