LONDON (Dow Jones)--Dutch coatings, chemicals and drugs company Akzo Nobel NV (AKZOY) is looking for ways to break into the human vaccine market, Chief Executive Hans Wijers told Dow Jones Newswires Tuesday in an interview.

The company is opening a multipurpose factory in the Netherlands Dec. 1 which will initially manufacture vaccines for its Intervet veterinary operation but could switch to human vaccines if the opportunity presents itself.

Wijers said that Akzo Nobel would like to strengthen its veterinary vaccine operations in the U.S. either organically or through acquisitions.
