Redmond, Washington, July 5 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. plans commercial production in April 2001 of the first consumer version of its Windows operating system based on Windows NT, ZDNet reported. Code-named Neptune, the system will be the first for consumers that's based on NT, which is designed for businesses, instead of on Windows. Neptune is tentatively set to go into testing in the third quarter of next year, ZDNet said.
Microsoft, the world's biggest software maker, plans to release another upgrade of its Windows 98 system, to be called Consumer Windows in 2000, in time for Christmas next year.
