I don't think Washington is a good example of guerrilla warfare. A better example is Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, and his guerrilla warriors in South Carolina.

I hope nobody in the American military thinks Americans can do guerrilla warfare in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Hearts and minds" -- it's not about winning hearts and minds, you have to have that already, ask Mao.

If not, as Patton said, "grab them by the balls and the hearts and minds will follow."

What we're trying to do now in Iraq is not do-able, not by us. The Iraqis themselves have to do it. All we can do is help.
