There's a lot of rote memorization in their system. I'm not sure you're actually looking at what you think you're looking at. It's not, imo, their educational system- it's their fixation on science careers, their societal respect for education, and the desire of most families to see their children educated- as well as, quite possibly, a more homogenous genetic population- of fairly high IQ's. I'd love to compare their IQ distribution with the IQ distribution in the US.
They don't have people in Japan huffing and puffing about how horrible scientists are, or blathering about the "myth" of evolution. There's no suspicion of the "liberal elite" who run colleges- because most Japanese really want to go to college. We, on the other hand, have a substantial population of complete morons who appear to be terrified of becoming educated, and even more alarmingly, have college educated frauds, who send their children to college, who parrot this kind of crap- fear mongering and running down the very education they and their children benefit from. |
