For his finale, he sang an extremely maudlin version of Danny Boy.

Is it possible to sing one that isn't maudlin?

Having worked for a Japanese company in sales for the last seven and a half years, I must regretfully report that I have heard an almost infinite number of inebriated and horrendously off-key renditions of Danny Boy at half the karaoke bars in Akasaka prefecture. A cross to bear in working in this milieu I am afraid. Worse still, what with my living in Baghdad by the Bay, my colleagues seem to consider it an honor to sing me their scotch-laced versions of I Left My Heart in San Francisco, despite any polite protestations I have ever made to the contrary.
