Jim, the Field Poll about smoking interviewed bar patrons. I think I have thrown the article away already, but as I recall a definite majority of smokers also thought the bars should continue to be non-smoking places. You must admit that the percentage of bar patrons smokes at a higher rate than the general population, so the results were even more definitive.

Last week Japan Airlines became a completely non-smoking airline, domestically and internationally. They did so because of CUSTOMER DEMAND. The percentage of Japanese who smoke has dropped from the low thirties to the low twenties recently.

Certainly I think you should have the right to smoke (as long as you don't mind spending four or five dollars a pack so that we can discourage young people from taking up the habit). But it is nice that non-smoking laws are taking hold, because it improves the public health.
