NetTV unwraps $1000 "convergence box"

yahoo.com

SAN FRANCISCO (Wired) - NetTV says it will show off prototypes of a forthcoming sub-$1,000 PC+TV convergence box at January's Consumer Electronics show.

For less than a grand, the company claims it will package a 27-inch television/SVGA monitor with integrated TV tuner.

The package will include a set-top "black box" that will include a full-featured Windows 95 multimedia computer with DVD player, digital satellite TV tuner, stereo surround sound, and wireless keyboard.

The system will use Cyrix's MediaGX processor, which was designed for the now-booming sub-$1,000 PC market. The system's projected price tag is well below that of current PC/TV convergence products.
