So you end up on this treadmill where the cost to make solar panels, wind turbines, etc, keeps rising along with oil. However, there is a possible glimmer of hope on the horizon with cheap thin-film solar panels. Time will tell. In the meantime, the first and best alternative is the old standby: energy efficiency and conservation. People will grumble, but the economics will drive it relentlessly for the next 5-10 years.
