Congressman DeFazio further states: "I am also concerned about the impact that diverting military and intelligence resources to Iraq will have on the campaign to wipe out al-Aaeda. We have not yet won the war on terrorism. Devoting tens or hundreds of billions of dollars and tens or hundreds of thousand of troops to Iraq for an invasion and a decade (or longer) occupation will strain our military and intelligence capabilities. I consider al-Qaeda to be the number one threat facing our nation. Diverting resources from combating the immediate threat posted by al-Qaeda in favor of tackling some potential future threat posed by Iraq is a mistake."
