I think when a pattern becomes as well known and as widely reported as this one, the pattern disappears. Everyone has been expecting YHOO and the internets to run up to their earnings and then sell off after announcing large upside surprises. Why not - it happened the last 3 quarters.

So this quarter everyone tries to get out a day or two early to game this and the pattern is disrupted. No huge upside before and no huge selloff after. Remember Jan and April when YHOO was moving up 20%+ daily in the days before earnings. I seem to remember a 70 point day in Jan.

Now, if YHOO announces strong earnings (beats the whisper of .11 with no negative guidance), then all of tech may be very strong tomorrow. Lead, of course, by the internets but you can count on MSFT to rally well into a strong market.
