Karen in IR told me today that the PIP patent expires this July. If true, damages against Mitsu and other companies will be limited to past infringements. I have calls in to the lawyers who tried the cases for Ampex and Mitsu and may be able to get some answers from them to some of the good questions on this thread. Even if they don't want to discuss the case, should be able to get them to send me copies of some of the documents that have been filed in the case which will tell us a bit more about the issues. We can get filed documents from the court, but they want 50 cents a page. The docket, which lists all of the documents and which might describe them in enough detail so that we can choose the relevant ones, is 44 pages long and a copy would cost $22. The clerk is quite friendly and will expedite mailing & even send it Fed Ex. Anybody want to conribute to the cost? With postage it will probably be around $30. Of course we'll still have to pay for the documents that we want copies of. I'll let you know early next week what if anything I learn from the lawyers.
