I meant that I suspect retail shorting may be a non-negligible piece of total retail margin usage at this time. I have no definite numbers, just anecdotes, e.g. from a distant acquaintance who runs a daytrading tank. Most retail investors do not either short or use margin, of course. Both activities are very small fractions of the total value of the market.
