And, the US is *among* the very cheapest.

Perhaps if you drop out the small countries (say under 15mil population), and you list the countries in order from cheapest to the most expensive, than we are nearer the cheapest side.

OTOH our gasoline isn't subsidized and we pay a lot more than the heavily subsidized countries.

Massive taxes increasing the price are just as much a government intervention as subsidies.
