Donald; Different materials interfere with what is called a std fire assay. If there are tellurides present they can form gold intermetallic compounds and those will enter the flux and end up in the cuploa and nnot in the bead for assay. It all depends on what is there. Strathcona will have done qualitative assays to see what was present and would have tailored it assay procedure to properly assay the gold present. There may have been several parallel assay procedures to cross check each other. The detailed DD assay manual may be available from them??
Kilborn is still competent. If they were given salted samples, they fiund salt. As simple as that. Kilborn did not drill its own holes or get its onw samples.
Rmors of Strathcona secretly buying BRE-X shares at 2-3 cents?? Who knows. Whatever happens BRE-X will be right out of Indonesia, so even if gold is there, they will never see it. And I think it is not there.
A standard fire assay for gold in quartz/carbonate systems exists at the labs. If there are tellurides, they modify it. Each gold camp, like Timmins, Kirkland Lake, Witwatersrand, etc has its own geology and the labs do indeed optimize the fire assays for each locale. It saves time as they cut out unneeded steps.
