>>Ritter cancels trip to Iraq amid reports about his past

Albany, New York-AP -- A former U-N weapons inspector has canceled a trip to Iraq, after reports surfaced about his past.

Scott Ritter tells the Times Union of Albany, New York that he changed his mind about the trip. He planned to leave yesterday to offer Baghdad advice on how to avoid a war with the United States.Ritter lives in suburban Albany, where area news reports had revealed he was arrested in 2001 in an Internet sex sting.Police reportedly accused him of trying to lure what he thought was a 16-year-old girl he met on the Internet -- but the charge was later dismissed and the records sealed. There were also reports that Ritter had been investigated months before his arrest for a similar incident.Ritter had served as chief U-N weapons inspector in Iraq during the 1990s.
