Answer to that is easy: the Supreme Court's *bloated* interpretation of the Constitution's Commerce Clause.

THAT's what provides the legal authority and justification... exactly the same as it provides the legal authority for federal proscription of marijuana (without first having to amend the Constitution like we had to when the federal government proscribed alcohol), and the fed's ability to control the growing of livestock feed that is *solely* for your own use....

BOTH examples are EVEN FURTHER STRETCHES then national health care even is!

As the article pointed out: As Filburn and Raich learned, the Constitution’s commerce clause lets Congress regulate even seemingly self-contained aspects of our lives.
