Demorats’ Oil Ads
By Ariel Alexovich

Both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are going back-and-forth in Pennsylvania ads about the extent of the campaign contributions they accept from oil interests.
Mrs. Clinton came out with an ad, “Pocket,” on Tuesday that slammed Mr. Obama for an earlier ad in which he said he doesn’t “take money from oil companies or Washington lobbyists.”
“No candidate does,” the Clinton announcer says. “It’s been against the law for 100 years.”

Mr. Obama forgot to be more specific, the narrator suggests, noting that he “accepted $200,000 from executives and employees of oil companies.” The names of some of those donors roll down the screen.
But Mrs. Clinton’s ad leaves out the fact that she’s also benefited from the generosity of those oil and gas executives, to the tune of $300,000, says FactCheck.org, which investigated the matter.
Mr. Obama’s team put out a response ad today that calls Mrs. Clinton’s spot “misleading” and gets a little more specific than just saying he doesn’t take money from oil companies. The new ad states that he “doesn’t take a dime from oil company P.A.C.s or lobbyists.”
