I don't know if you'll remember this, but it was Joe Granville who was the only (and he was right on the money) guru who spotted the bear market in 80-81.

He then spent the next several years being profiled in magazines and calling for market crashes (I am not sure where he was for the '87 crash).

Garzarelli has hung around longer, but apparently has had the same level of success with subsequent market calls.

One of my B-School professors used to use the analogy of 100 people calling a coin toss:

The first time 50 will be correct, the next time 25, etc. until we have one person who is the best at calling coin tosses (unfortunately, of course, he is just lucky to be the statistically predicted survivor).

Just thought I'd point that out (not specifically to you Paul).
