<Is the mint sauce served on the lamb an American tradition, or does it come from Eurome?> I suppose from Britain, where most of the cultural norms in NZ came from.
Speaking of tradition, I see the USA is into nepotism these days... as is traditional in third world traditional states.
<Bush names Michael Powell as new FCC head
Michael Powell, the son of Secretary of State Colin Powell, was tapped on Monday by President George W. Bush to head the Federal Communications ...>
Maybe he's the best person and he DOES have great DNA for affirmative action [he probably needs special help because of the problems he has due to having sunsafe skin]. I hope George W is appointing Condoleezza Rice [Rice = good name for dealing with China and 'Condoleezza' is a fun name, if complex for people used to Wong and Hu], Colin [Colinisation] Powell and Michael [thanks Dad] Powell for their ability and NOT because he feels sorry for them or to meet some stupid government quota.
Maybe Michael will cancel the silly requirement that cellphone price plans be submitted to the FCC. Maybe he'll allow unfettered competition rather than continue the Californian electricity supply command and control economy [which never worked very well in USSR and other socialist states - but you never know, maybe the USA can make it work].

PS: If Condoleezza has the right [meaning Lesbian] sexual orientation, George could score three hits on the EEO [Equal Employment Opportunity for people with great gonads and no Y chromosome] and Affirmative Action and No Sexual Preference discrimination categories. Omigosh, imagine if she was pregnant too. That would be a home run.
Life would be less absurd if people could just be people with their own, individual characteristics rather than being bundled with others in some arbitrary category. There are billions of bits of DNA in each of us, so it seems odd to pick out a few odd ones which don't correlate well with a person's intentions, motivations, ability or character.
I guess it's the arty types who try to bundle people into arbitrary groups like that - engineers and scientists know that you can't bundle peoples' minds according to melanin in skin, XY chromosomes and sexual attitudes. Unless having babies, sunbathing or choosing a 'special friend', it's the mind which matters. |
