cirrus - I do, but I don't think his problem was with his handlers. I think the issue is one of public personality versus private personality, at least when the pressure is on to make an impression. He'd always been viewed as a bright, witty guy, but when he spoke to a broad audience he never was able to convey that. From what I've heard, in private and small groups, Bush is pretty quick-witted and sharp, but you'd never know it from most of his public appearances.

I find our political system pretty sad - the fact that politicians like Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh aren't the leaders of their respective parties is unfortunate. Maybe it's an illustration of Mencken's comment of about 80 years ago:
Democracy is that form of government whereby the common people know what they want and deserve to get it, good and hard.
