Interphase Delivers Enterprise ATM Networking Drivers for Novell NetWare 5
Provides Network Managers with Highly Integrated Enterprise Connectivity Solution for NetWare(R) Environments
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1999-- Interphase Corporation (Nasdaq/NMS: INPH - news), an international supplier of enterprise networking technologies, today announced that drivers for its ATM adapter family are included with Novell's® NetWare® 5 software. The significance of these new drivers is that they utilize services embedded directly in Novell's operating system, resulting in easier installation, better performance and higher reliability in user environments. Interphase is currently the industry's only vendor to provide a certified ''Yes, Tested and Approved'' vendor on the production NetWare 5 CD to utilize Novell's integrated ATM protocol stack.

ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) has rapidly gained acceptance as a multi-service enterprise backbone technology providing seamless connectivity between the local (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). This enables enterprise-wide deployment of QoS (Quality of Service) applications and integrated services such as voice, video and data on a single network.

''Interphase continues the aggressive development of drivers for mission-critical operating system environments like NetWare because we believe that ATM is a key building block for enterprise connectivity,'' said Greg Kalush, Interphase president and CEO. ''As corporations extend their reach through remote access and Internet/Intranet architectures, ATM is increasingly being deployed to carry traffic over Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), the public telephone network, and to remote clients over cable or ADSL modems.''

NetWare is expected to continue as a predominant ''open system'' network operating system (NOS) for corporate enterprises in the foreseeable future. According to market analyst firm Giga Information Group, NetWare 5 is expected to have an 18% share of the enterprise NOS market through the end of the year 2000. A rate high migration from earlier versions of NetWare is predicted because NetWare 5 provides the ability to run a pure IP (Internet Protocol) network while maintaining full support for Novell's traditional IPX protocol and IPX-based applications.

Ease of Installation, Performance and Reliability

Because the new Interphase ATM drivers are provided directly on the operating system CDs from Novell, installation of ATM adapters has never been simpler for network managers. Upon boot-up, the operating system automatically recognizes the Interphase ATM adapter and initializes it for the host system.

Further, since ATM services such as LAN Emulation, IP over ATM, and PPP over ATM are included in the native OS, Interphase has been able to develop smaller and more tightly integrated device drivers to support the NetWare 5 environment. The result is enhanced performance and greater reliability for enterprise network installations utilizing ATM.

''NetWare 5 is helping Novell customers tackle today's networking challenges while also preparing for their future networking needs,'' said Carleton Watkins, Director of Novell's DeveloperNet Lab. ''Because Interphase's ATM products are Novell 'Yes Tested & Approved' they will be able to provide their customers, on NetWare-based networks, a highly integrated communications solution with superior management, control and interoperability.''
